A Hollywood Tail by Elizabeth Grace

"A Hollywood Tail is a humor-filled story about one squirrel's journey to fame and his realization that being famous isn't all it's cracked up to be."

Character name: My full name is Jerry McIntyre McGregory Jacobs but you can call me Jerry.

Book name:
A Hollywood Tail by Elizabeth Grace

Tell me a little about yourself?

Growing up, I was always told I had to find myself a squirrel job. The problem? I wanted to become famous. I really didn’t know what that was so I headed off to Hollywood to figure it out. This book is my story on the road to fame.

Where do you live?

I used to live in Snowy Creek, now I live in Hollywood.

Who is the most important person in your life?

I met Ben (a muscovy duck) and Lizzy (an iguana) and they have become really important to me. I still miss my family and friends in Snowy Creek though.

What was your childhood like?

I climbed a lot of trees and helped out on my mom’s cranberry farm, typically dropping the prized berry, Big Red.

Of all the people you've met, who would you LEAST like to be stuck in an elevator with?

Someone that works at the pound. The ones with the big nets.

What is the most important thing in your life? What do you value most?

Being famous was the most important thing, but now I know that friends are the most important. I value my friends the most.

What is your biggest fear?

Cats.

What is the most important thing that ever happened to you? Why?

Getting suspended from school. Because of that, I followed my dream and moved to Hollywood.

Do you have any special talents or abilities?

I’m great at being famous!

How do you see your future?

I hope I become an even bigger star.

If you could spend the day with someone you admire (living or dead or imaginary), who would you pick?

I would choose Alvin and the Chipmunks. They’re pretty cool.

If you had a free day with no responsibilities, how would you spend it?

I’d get ice cream with my friend Ben.

Where can we find out more about you?

You can visit my website, Lizzythewriter.com. The person that wrote the book about me has more info about me there. Or, I have a twitter account! @HollywoodTail, you can follow me there!

The Abduction of Joshua Bloom by Michael Thal

Tell me a little about yourself?

Ms Rusinoff, first, I’d like to say how much I appreciate you taking the time to talk to me. I spent three years of my life with Oceanian girls who don’t listen to the guys very much. Oceania is light years from Earth. I really learned a lot from the experience, too, but I sure missed home.

Where do you live?

I live on the starship Explorer.

Who is the most important person in your life?

That’s easy. Anita. She’s my dream girl come true.

What was your childhood like?

I grew up in the shadow of my twin brother, Moshe. It was kind of tough playing second fiddle to this guy. But all things changed when the Oceanians saved me from a lion attack.

Of all the people you've met, who would you LEAST like to be stuck in an elevator with?

That’s easy, Lela. She’s the Captain of the Explorer and was on my case from day one. I did have some fun playing mind games with her, but Anita didn’t like it. If I was in an elevator with Lela, she’d probably have me do 100 pushups.

What is the most important thing in your life? What do you value most?

Keeping up with the daily regimen of starship travel is demanding. I thought my track coach was tough. Lela makes us exercise three hours a day, arrive to work on time, and the food rations are meager at best. I guess I value a nice steak meal with baked potato and a fresh salad the most. Won’t happen here, though.

What is your biggest fear?

The Palash. They are a pack of ugly alien dudes that get their jollies destroying worlds.

What is the most important thing that ever happened to you? Why?

Lela saved my life from that man-eating lion. Then she abducted and absorbed me into her starship crew. She taught me self-discipline and guided me toward maturity. I just don’t like her attitude.

Do you have any special talents or abilities?

Anita says I have the potential of being an excellent diplomat. I can also program the sanitation bots like a pro.

How do you see your future?

That all depends on the Palash. As I write these words, rumor has it that their invasion forces are headed this way.

If you could spend the day with someone you admire (living or dead or imaginary), who would you pick?

I really miss my twin brother, Moshe. Anita says he’s aged thirty years since I left Earth. The Oceanian scientists say it has something to do with the space/time conundrum.

If you had a free day with no responsibilities, how would you spend it?

I’d love to go back to that water world Anita and I visited early in our exploits. It was so much fun scuba diving and meeting intelligent life under the seas of Sirus-4.

Where can we find out more about you?

Michael Thal wrote my biography, The Abduction of Joshua Bloom. That tells it all. The book is listed as Science Fiction, but don’t believe that. It’s 100% true.

Biography

Michael L. Thal, an accomplished freelancer, is the author of The Koolura Series, Goodbye Tchaikovsky, and The Abduction of Joshua Bloom. He has written and published over eighty articles for magazines and newspapers including Highlights for Children, The Los Angeles Times, and San Diego Family Magazine. You can learn more about him at www.michaelthal.com.

Excerpt from The Abduction of Joshua Bloom

I had a fantasy girlfriend I met in a dream. She had orange hair and dark skin.

In the dream, I jogged along a bike path with the sun to my back. Cottages kissed the hot sand. A long pebbly beach reached the ocean’s lapping waters. A girl streaked past me, turned and smiled. She seemed to be about my age, sixteen. Details of her face were obscured by shadows and dreamy murkiness.

“Can you catch up?” the dream girl asked.

Want to know the weird part? She didn’t speak. Her words were injected into my brain. Then dream girl darted down the path and through a dark tunnel.

I followed. The tunnel narrowed into a slit, waking me with claustrophobic shakes.

The dream recurred every few nights until that fateful day when I had enough of my twin brother, Moshe.

….....................
